27-12-2008: I reorganised the propaganda page slightly since I got a hold of some original newspapers with off course some pictures of the MP40. www.mp40.nl/index.php

26-12-2008: Another swindler who tries to sell these Portuguese Mauser muzzle caps as "early MP38/40" muzzle caps. http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=2068363

26-12-2008: Original leather MP38 pouch. Now on auktion at: http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=2062829

20-11-2008: Now on e-gun another Erma MP38. Great piece! a pitty that it has been reblued. http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=2061872#img

16-12-2008: I found these very sharp pictures of an ayf-41 MP40 http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3016045&userid=41132. I recently thought ayf coded 1941 MP40's were very rare. Since initially I only had one not numbermatching MP40 in my list. Since I posted this I already received 2 other ayf coded 1941 MP40's.

14-12-2008: Today I updated the serial list again. About time!!! Please keep sending those serialnrs. http://www.mp40.nl/uploads/MP40%20Database.pdf

Samopal MP38 a MP40 - Martin Helebrant

13-12-2008: I already received my first Christmas present from Santa. It's a new book on the MP38 and MP40 written by Martin Helebrant from The Tjech Republic; "Samopal M.P.38 a MP40". Although I cannot read it (the book is written in the Tjech language) I really like the new pictures from the MP36 and the "mystery" aluminum MP38. Both of these rare guns are exhibited in the Military Museum in Prague. (as the average hardcore MP40 freak should know!) I really cannot wait for the English version to be released. Although Martin told me this will take a little while longer. If you want to add this to your bookshelf then please let me know and I will contact Martin's publisher. Also you can order it yourself off course. I added the book to the book list on this website.

12-11-2008: Nice postcard I recently bought from the series "Unsere Wehrmacht". The photo shows three Wehrmacht soldiers storming an enemy bunker complex. The soldier in the middle is carrying a MP38 or MP40. I have collected a lot of original pictures from WW2 which I would like to present on one phote page in the near phuture. If you have some interesting original photos that you allow me to publish on this website then please send them to me at info@mp40.nl. Thanks!

11-12-2008: Below you see an article from june 1946 which describes how to make your own wooden model of the MP40. Already on the first page I see 2 misunderstandings. First they say "The Schmeisser MP40 was Germany's fast-shooting version of our Tommy Gun". I think they were mixing thing up with the MG42. The Thompson M1A1 had a firing rate of 700 round per minute. His older brother up to 850 rounds per minute. The MP40 had about 450 rounds per minute. Secondly they write "This model with folding shoulder stock, was standard equipment for Hitler's paratroopers. Infantry officers got a modified type". Mmmm I wonder what the modified type was? The MP41? I wonder how many of these wooden models were succesfully build with these instructions. They seem a bit coprehensive to me. If you also have some old (or new) articles about the MP38/40/41 please send them to me info@mp40.nl

Rare ayf mp40

06-12-2008: To me this is pretty rare! It's the signature on the end cap of a ayf MP40 from 1941. I received the picture from a Spanish collector. It's the only MP40 with this code I have in my list. I was under the impression that there were only MP38's with this code & year. It's a pity that the MP was not number matching but still this grip section is rare!

06-12-2008: I received a few pictures of a French collector. He owns the 3 different MP40's and 1 MP38. He also send me all the serial information of these 4 MP's. Which reminds me I need to update it again. If you have some nice pictures of your collection please feel free to send them to me. I can place them with or without name/initials. Please send to info@mp40.nl.

Thanks Frank P.!!

Pistolen Paultje with MP40

05-12-2008: This picture of "Pistolen Paultje" ("Pistol Paul") with a MP40. A well known public figure to people born before 1980. He was a dutch Resistance section leader during WW2. This group stole weapons of the Germans during the occupation years. After the war he became known as kind of "good criminal" and protector of animal rights.

02-12-2008: They are still there. Especially in Scandinavia. http://www.bisgaardnielsen.dk/group.asp?group=165

Reproduction safety strap on rare MP40 (2)

26-10-2008: Again I have interupted myself again with the work on the main MP40 page by another "accessory" page. To me this page was really fun to make because the use of the safety strap was prescribed by a special directive. I was so lucky to get my hands on a original version of this "Merkblatt" (instruction sheet) www.mp40.nl/index.php

19-10-2008: I received some interesting extra information on the firing pin gauges from a Austrian gauge collector. I'm expecting some more information but if you want to check out the new information then follow the link: http://www.mp40.nl/index.php?page=the-waffenmeister-firing-pin-gages Thanks Josef S.!

19-10-2008: Nice detailed pictures of a Steyr 43 MP40 version with the simplified grip as a "Deko-Teilesatz" now on offer at Rask Antik: www.raskantik.com/varergr/deko/pistol/p38/p38.htm

15-10-2008: A friend of mine send me these pictures of liberated MP40's. These pictures are from the Canadian Archives. Often MP40's were used by the Allies against there former owners. So were donkeys apparently!!

27-09-2008: I added a small page about the "Waffenmeister" firing pin gauges. http://www.mp40.nl/index.php?page=the-waffenmeister-firing-pin-gages

14-09-2008: I added today 2 small pages http://www.mp40.nl/index.php?page=blank-firing-devices and http://www.mp40.nl/index.php?page=magazine-cleaning-brush-platzpatronengerat

13-09-2008: I noticed this 43 Steyr handgrip for sale at Gunbroker. I have seen these before but I heavily doubt if this is an original ww2 factory item. In 1943 Aluminum was considered a critical raw material. Everything was done to simplify production to make it cheaper. Producing an aluminum foregrip would seem to go against this. If it would have appeared on a MP38 I would not have been so sure about it since the MP38 grip is also made out of Aluminum: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=109658423

05-09-2008: This picture I received recently from a german MP40 collector. I have tried counting them but without succes! I also received some really interesting pictures of a tool that was used to measure the length of a MP40 firing pin. As soon as I have time I will add this to the accessories page. Thanks Alex K.!

I wish I could add all these serialnumbers to my list.

31-08-2008: Recently I added this all matching MP40 to the list. (BNZ-42 serial 2e) I have never seen a single digit serialnumber on a MP40. Thanks B.L. for this info and pics!!

28-08-2008: This deko MP41 (Teilesatz=Part set) sold on egun.de has the highest serial number (22868) I've come across. The owner was so kind to send me the serialnr. http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=1911085

20-08-2008: Too be honest I'm not that fond of MP40 movies on Youtube but I like this one because the sound is proper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87UxMA1SSQE&feature=related

07-08-2008: At Simpson LTD there a selling one or more "MP40" Muzzle covers. http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_info.php?products_id=5701 PLEASE BEWARE!!!! These are muzzlecovers for a Portugese Mauser and not for a "very early MP38 or MP40" as they claim. Check this link: www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php the 11th picture. It's not my purpose to put Simpson in a bad position, but I don't think you should pay a 195 dollar for a Mauser Muzzle cover!!! Which you can buy for 10 dollars!!

03-08-2008: This buyer was lucky I guess. These manuals are getting more expensive. I'm stil looking for the military version of the manual. The D 167/1 . Anyone? http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=1879796

27-07-2008: Again I added a small page with pictures of national socialistic propaganda with the MP38 and MP40: http://www.mp40.nl/index.php?page=mp40-propaganda-pictures

24-06-2008: Yesterday I received these pictures from Rich U. Last weekend he had a machine gun shoot in one of the U.S. States where this is legal. www.mp40.nl/index.php

19-06-2008: Today I added an extra page relating to the muzzle cap/Műndungsschöner www.mp40.nl/index.php

14-06-2008: Herman Historica always has interesting pieces. Yesterday and today a lot of pieces were auctioned again of "Le Poche de Royan Museum 1944/45". Check out this MP40 in original state http://www.hermann-historica.de/auktion/hhm55.pl?f=NR&c=69958&t=temartic_A_GB&db=kat55.txt . If you want to check the entire list: http://www.hermann-historica.de/auktion/hhm55.pl?f=KAPITEL&c=Armes+à+feu&t&t=temgroup_a_GB&start=1&dif=20&db=kat55.txt . Look at that G43. This must be one of the most beautifull pieces I have ever seen. The price is also beautifull.

31-05-2008: Fake or not? I have heard (and seen) shortened MP44 Magazines but to be honest never of shortened MP40 magazines. www.egun.de/market/item.php Please let me know your thoughts on this.

30-05-2008: On the 10th of May a commemoration was held in the city of Dordrecht. On may the 10th 1940 German Fallschirmjager attacked the surroundig areas of Dordrecht and Rotterdam. A Dutch reenactment group replayed this situation.www.mp40.nl/index.php

23-05-2008: A Haenel (122) MP38 now for sale in Germany. www.egun.de/market/item.php and a tortured Erma EMP in the US www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp . Does anybody know how many MP38 Haenel produced?

21-05-2008: Well today I received an answer on the question below. This must be indeed the most rare accessory for the MP38 and 40. Apparently this box was found at an Austrian police station. I will add this to the accessories page when I get to it. www.simpsonltd.com/product_info.php Thanks John B!!!!!!!

18-05-2008: MP40 carrying Case. www.egun.de/market/item.php Does anybody know if there are still originals of this carrying case?

18-05-2008: An MP41 for sale is rare. On egun.de they are offering 2 at the moment. Nice condition as well: www.egun.de/market/item.php and www.egun.de/market/item.php

09-05-2008: I just received this link from another MP40 enthousiastic. In the future I to make make a single page with only short MP40 movies: www.youtube.com/user/DARIVSARCHITECTVS

04-05-2008: A funny way to deactivated a MP40. It seems that every country or state has it's own rules towards the deactivation of weapons. www.uniquecanes.com/store/product.php

02-05-2008: During the "May" Holidays I had the privalige to visit the Wehrtehnische Studiesammlung (WTS) in Koblenz. I took some nice pictures. Note that the MP38 in the pictures is the same MP38 that is in the Propaganda Photo Series Vol.II. Unfortunately I could not see the experimental safety which is located on the right side of the mp38. WTS Pictures. If you want to pay them a visit look here: www.bwb.org

14-04-2008: This picture was sent to me recently. A mix of mp40's and in front an mp38. This was found in some Military depot in former Yougoslavia. Amazing where all these MP's show up in the world. Supposedly Norway cleared up their old strategic stock of mp38's and 40's. There were destroyed by the thousands. Also in Africa these guns are still found. Zimbabwe for example. If you have similar pictures please send them to me!

09-02-2008: For sale now at 321.Quite rare if you ask me: http://www.militaria321.com/auktionsdetails.cfm?auctionID=5380562

04-01-2008: Now for sale in Germany; an early version of mp40 with old style retractinghandle. A very nice example if you ask me. I wonder what the final bidding price is going to be. www.egun.de/market/item.php (Important: please note that the buying and selling of de-activated sub-machineguns is only permitted if national or local law allows this)

16-12-2007: Wow! unbelievable! An mp40 I in the hands of a private collector. www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php This is the first time I heard a collecter owns one of these exceptional versions. I know that here are at least 6 other ones on display in the world. (The Aberdeen Army Ordance Museum (USA), The Imperial War museum (UK), The D-Day museum of Bayeux (France) and 3 other private collectors as mentioned in De Vries and Martens "Propaganda Photo series" and Frank Iannamico's "Blitzkrieg". The owner allowed me to put up the photo's on this website. I will publish them as soon as possible. It's a pitty that these guns are still given the wrong designation. It's the MP40 I not the mp40 II.
